Mirissa

A 5am pick up (yawn) to go looking for blue whales on a boat from Mirissa. We had about 8 sightings but it was probably the same whale! Not easy to photograph as they don’t surface for long but exciting anyway, just metres away from Earth’s largest animal.

Stilt fishermen nearby, just doing it for the tourists but didn’t mind giving some rupees - it was +30c at 11am.

Back to the hotel for a swim, a proper sunset then dinner at Galle Fort. Said goodbye to our fellow tour guests and our wonderful driver/guide Walter ... kept us safe through the relentless madness of tuk tuks, mopeds, Tata lorries, dogs & cows.
