A walk in the woods in search of photographs is always good on a cloudy day when the sky is a uniform white and is at best usually a distracting element. Under even illumination, subjects are not defined by light and shade to describe their forms and instead the focus is subtle texture and colour transitions and contrasts.

In turn, this emphasis gives the viewer more interest to explore and engage with. The initial impact may be less than with a high contrast image, but invites repeat visits as more details are there to be discovered.

Looking at it now, I can see a few things I might try. I seem to have chopped off the splinter on the right. I could possibly make more of the curved sapling in the right foreground in relation to the one slightly cropped on the left. The piece of wood in the foreground is half in the frame. And a reminder again to try double exposure to bring out more shadow detail. The snow is so bright!
