Lunar New Year

This weekend we celebrated Chinese New Year,  or Lunar New Year as it is called here.  As you can see the local supermarket car park has been decorated with red lanterns.

We celebrated  with friends at the Chinese Restaurant, which was filled to capacity on both Friday and Saturday.   Fortunately we had booked. The staff were all wearing traditional Chinese outfits in either red or gold.  The menu was the normal one, but our clever chef had added a wonderful raspberry ice cream dessert, see my extra.  It was made with fresh raspberries.  The chef challenged  us to find the sweet bit.  We began our challenge in earnest.  Was it the pineapple pieces?  No.  The grapes? No.  The tiny flowers.  No.   Then all four of us discovered the sweet bit.  It was tiny curls of white and pink chocolate carefully hidden under the ice cream.
It was the first time that our friends had had a dessert at this restaurant and they loved the theater of it, the dry ice creating smoke that drifted over the table and the perfect placing of the tiny flowers.  Not to mention the flavour.
