This section of road between Motueka and Nelson follows the Moutere Inlet. 

It’s very tidal and not particularly exciting until the mudflats are covered in water as the tide flows through the channel by the Motueka wharf and between Jackett Island and the tip of Kina peninsular.

The sun was still low in the sky this morning as we made our way to Nelson for an early appointment.


Seriously hot weather and little wind made today a tad uncomfortable. Officially Nelson was 27C, while here in Motueka the car temperature gauge read 31C and in the shade at home it was almost 40C. Thank goodness for air conditioners at home and in the car!

There are now two chrysalis hanging from leaves and another caterpillar in the classic ‘J’ shape. They are safely in a caterpillar castle until they emerge as butterflies.
