It seemed too nice a morning to do housework so I took the bus to Jedburgh. There was brilliant sunshine although it clouded over during my very muddy walk on the hill behind Jedburgh from where I had been able to see the Cheviot Hills on the English border. But on the way back the mist was hiding the wind turbines on Soutra Hill and by the time I reached home it was very dull but still quite warm.
The view is looking through a restored archway across the nave of Jedburgh Abbey towards Newgate Steeple. The abbey built by the Augustinians, must have been impressive over five hundred years ago but like most important buildings in the Scottish borders it suffered greatly from continual attacks by the English and eventually fell out of use in 1560 when many of the stones were used for buildings elsewhere
