An Expedition
Wednesday as the longer serving blippers might remember was the day that you were all invited for coffee in the room behind the Door because that was the day HL went walking in the Lamington Hills near Biggar with two friends from Edinburgh and his study was open to the public.
Now that all three of these likely lads have shuffled off their mortal coil, we ,their widows, took the bus to Linlithgow, had a lengthy coffee before walking round Linlithgow Loch in sunshine and balmy temperatures and then had the timerity to repair to the Three Mary’s Hostellry for a late lunch. How does battered halloumi sound? It tasted really rather nice but was no doubt extremely unhealthy.
It was a lovely day and certainly not as taxing as a hike over the Lamington Hills. We even managed to try out the swings in the play park (legally available to the under 14 s and the over 80s!)
With Linlithgow Palace featured in the blip, the statue of Mary Queen of Scots who was born there in the extra and the Three Marys featuring in the lunch stop, it was inevitable that we sang ‘Last night the Queen had Four Marys* , the nicht she’ll Hae but Three’ as we rumbled home on the bus.
