WITH A SONG IN MY HEART

Horrible Day - Dodgy Characters!

We set off happily this morning to the boat. Bella - May was excited because she understands the words boat and swans so she ran to the door, tail wagging and jumped in the car no bother.) She doesn't normally like going in the car unless we mention boat!)
We had only gone about 3 miles when a young guy jumped out into the middle of the road from behind a white van which was parked on the right. Frank slammed the brakes on and then there was an almighty crash! A car had run into the back of us with great force.
It took us a few seconds to comprehend what had just happened. Frank got out all guns blazing to ask the guy what the hell he was playing at whereupon he just walked away up to a caravan that was parked further ahead then hopped in a field and ran away.
He had been guiding a tractor that was in the process of hauling  another caravan out of a field. There were also 2 more lined up to be brought out.
While that was going on I went to the other crashed car - a red mini and saw a woman standing shaking at the road side. She had managed to get out of her car but was in a lot of pain - mainly her neck and shoulders. We sat her down while one of the caravan owners  (I will call him Tweedman, as he was dressed like a country gentleman!) said he would call an ambulance and Frank phoned the police. Tweedman said 'Oh we don't want police involved this isn't a police matter'. Him and his friends and family then proceeded to try and get the caravans out onto the road. Luckily the police arrived then so they couldn't proceed.
Tweedman was being awkward and obstrictive by not giving them his name or any details and said there was nobody who had jumped in the road.
The ambulance was taking so long to arrive that I got the police to chase it up. They arrived not long after that but it was about 40 minutes after Tweedman had made the initial call - which now makes me question whether he actually called one in the first place because police would have automatically been involved. I wish I hadn't trusted him at the beginning.
We got the lady into our car to keep her warm as there was nowhere for her to sit on the busy road and she was in a terrible state - no blood but in shock and pain.
She told me she was a community midwife and had been on her way to visit her clients and her main concern was letting them down.
The police asked us lots of questions and told us the man who jumped out into the road had run off not only because of the accident but mainly because he's on their wanted list.
The lady managed to phone her husband and her work and the paramedics took her off to hospital.
We couldn't get hold of the vehicle recovery to get our car and because the police didn't know how safe it was to drive they escorted us back to the house.
They phoned us a little while ago to say the lady was being scanned. We have have her husband's phone number so we can find out how she is.

Needless to say we never got to the boat or the dentist so I am still gappy but at least all in one piece!
Bella was a bit shaky when it all happened but settled fairly quickly. Now she is just miserable because we are back home instead of on the boat :-(
