Diary of an Edinburgher

Lunch in town!

A beautiful sunny day with no wind! Saturday is Elizabeth's day with Archie, and our day for, eg, lunch in town. And so we booked for a place we haven’t been before, as they, like many establishments in January, have 50% off! We had a 12.30 booking, and so popped Archie down with Rufus and his mum to await the main event - Elizabeth.

And what a fabulous meal we had. It was a very nice place, too, made better by grumpy me changing tables three times - I didn’t want to sit near loud people... we got a seat upstairs, looking down on the whole restaurant, but more especially at the pizza chef, who was kept busy the whole time. We had a rather large fillet steak each. We're not huge meat eaters, and that will probably be the last for a while, but it was melt-in-the-mouth yummy. Good chips too.

JR tried to get me to browse some shops, but no amount of SALE signs could lure me in. I don’t need anything! Except some licorice...

I had a look at the complete bomb site that is the East Princes Street Gardens. It's just a huge mud hole, and it'll take months to be put right after the controversial much expanded Christmas Market. And after the shocking decision to cut down 52 mature trees.

Home to relax and yes - a rugby match on TV. Perfect.

Here we're going down the Scotsman Steps, a work of art comprising many different types of marble. Just a pity they can’t keep this work of art clean and chewing gum-free.
