Ever Decreasing Circles
We've built a new unit at work- essentially half a new hospital- and it's very high-tech with "proximity" badges. I was a bit worried they wouldn't work, but in reality my only issue is I had my ridiculous "Movember Bandito" moustache & chops (I cheated, & sculpted my usual (closely cropped) beard into shape...I totally forgot I'd need a new badge!).
The badges do need to get rather close to work, so I bought a key-ring with a "boing-y string" to get closer without having to take it off (or getting weirdly close to the sensors;-)...but tonight it fell apart. At least it looked cool when it did...I can't say I'm fond of things breaking, but getting a blip out of it softens the blow.
Major changes are funny things. We think the change is the big step, but we forget it'll take time to get used to the change. And then when the change happens and can seem overwhelming. But as time goes on we make adjustments, little changes which get us closer to our goal...and we get a little better each (or at least most of the) time. And, almost without realising it, we're at our goal.
That's how I like to see these circles- zeroing in on a target with quiet persistence. And it's a reminder that things get better with time...if you're patient, and keep taking little steps, you'll get there eventually.
