Sinister Sunrise

Colours shimmered through the blind:
it came as no surprise
that when I opened it pure red
and purple met my eyes,
a sign of stormy weather
in ephemeral dawn disguise.

This photograph has frozen time:
its presence will not let
the leaden sky and howling wind
allow me to forget
bright, baleful beauty through the blind
before the world turned wet.
