I wanna rock with you .... All Night....
When I was 16, my friend was the object of A's affection.
A worked in his dad's garage which was on the back road of her street. Of an evening's walk home from school, we would stop by and chat and giggle for a while; anticipating when he was going to make his first proper "move".
Eventually, after many, many weeks, one evening he suggested that my mate, and myself, might like to accompany him and his mate for a drive in his dad's Volvo.
Being 16, and easily impressed, we checked that his mate wasn't a complete munter, and readily agreed. As we walked up the road, we giggled between ourselves, sniggering about where we might drive too, and which of our friends might see us in "the volvo".
The one thing we were rather concerned about was "The Carrick Hills".
The Carrick Hills, as seen above, sit before the Heads of Ayr and were a well known spot for Snogging Couples. We agreed, that should it look like the car was heading anywhere in the direction of the Carrick Hills, we would get out the car and run very, very fast in any other direction.
The night of the drive arrived, and J and me toddled down the back road, and met A, who drove us to Ayr to pick up S, and introductions were made. We drove around Ayr for a while, and then A rather too casually said "I wonder where we should go now", before sniggering at S, and turning right on the road out of Ayr.
J and I looked at each other and giggled helplessly.
And so it was that night, up the Carrick Hills that you would have found two 16 year old lassies, and two 17 year old boys, chasing sheep to the sound of Michael Jackson, on Radio Luxemburg, and laughing out loud just with the pleasure of having fun.
The way it should be when you are 16.
