Diary of an Edinburgher

Happy New Year!

Well, I did make it up the hill for midnight! Along with hundreds of other folk. A good vantage point for viewing the fireworks, but no good for photos, really - too far away.

I couldn’t stand the whole time, so I was searching for a place where I could sit (and get up again) without too much trouble, when I spied two young folk on the only bench up near the summit. So I (sort of) barged in on their romantic moment and asked if I could join them. They didn’t seem to mind, and I scuttled off sharpish once the fireworks stopped. JR hobbled out to the road and probably had a better view...

And so the new decade started slowly. JR still taking it fairly easy on her sore ankle, though once she'd had her breakfast (two courses) in bed, she got up and spent the day doing housework, tidying up, and made soup. I, on the other hand, relaxed on the sofa and watched 'The Thomas Crown Affair' (1968) starring Steve McQueen. I've never seen it, and if it hadn't had McQeen in it, I wouldn’t have bothered. Then came 'The Magnificent Seven' (1960) also with McQueen and plenty of other famous chaps. I thought it was supposed to be a classic? Pretty silly stuff, really.

Half way though that film I gave up (it seemed to go on for a very long time) and took Archie out to the Links, but walked round the block for a look at the newest hostelry in town. So new it hasn’t got its website up and running yet. Yes! Dog friendly. Nice big comfy sofas, very loud muzak, very busy, all-new staff looking slightly panicky.

An early start tomorrow - we're heading to Glasgow to sit on a sofa, with a view to possibly buying that style, and a nice lunch thrown in, hopefully. Archie is staying with his pal Rufus for the day.
