White-Faced Heron

Ardea novaehollandiae.

This was a very unusual sight over my back fence this afternoon.

For a few minutes the rain almost stopped, and the light was brighter so I went out to see what I could blip. The heron was quite some distance away and I didn't get as good a shot as I would like.

While out there I looked toward the mountains. There was low cloud, but I could see snow well down on the slopes. No wonder it is so cold. When I think of the heat last week, more than 20ºC warmer, it seems like a dream.
