At the Heceta Lighthouse

A day without rain had been in the forecast so I suggested a double outing: climbing up to the Heceta Lighthouse ( 14 miles north of town), then me taking pictures and enjoying the little lighthouse museum, while Don walked with Maggie down the hill towards the beach and the Hobbit trail. There I could pick up the two. This plan worked out fine except that in the moment, when we arrived at the lighthouse, it started raining and did not stop for an hour. And I did not have a raincoat...
So the first picture is in the rain, looking south. The moment we left, the sun came out and that will be the first picture, looking north,  in the extras.
What fascinated me in the little museum, was the big lens in the lighthouse. It is a fresnel lens (?) with 406 prisms and 8 'bullnoses" ( see picture 2 and 3 in the extras. This lens dates from before the last war and cannot be remade, as the company does not exist anymore. Inside there are 2 bulbs with 1000 Watts each, one burning at the time, if that light would go out, the lamps switches and the other bulb burns. (picture 3) Picture 4 is a picture of a picture of the lighthouse in full action....
So today it is worth looking at all the extras in large!
