Almost the Shortest Day
I was far too impatient this morning for day to break, so I decided to deliver the combined Christmas and Birthday card to my unfortunate school friend who celebrates her birthday on Christmas Day under cover of darkness. This was the experience that millions of workers have daily as they go to work in the dark and come home in the dark. I even had a coffee in a café before it got light. My excitement was palpable!!
Later, yet more wool was bought. Even the nice lady in the wool shop tells me that I have to curb my charitable generosity. She is probably correct. I feel as if I’ve finally repaid the care and kindness shown to me and HL last year.
The town was so busy that I momentarily forgot this was only Friday and not yet the weekend. . It seems a kind of madness descends when there are 2 days of holiday looming , even if we know that it is unlikely ever single shop will be shut when there are barrowloads of tourists pulling their cases into hotels and AirBnB flats and requiring 24/7 entertainment.
I am even feeling just a tad sorry for them trailing about when the weather is so damp and dark. You see, the Christmas spirit is even now descending on this curmudgeonly old Lady. Where will it all end, I ask you!
