Well it is not Jane Austen.
But then it is not PD James either.
If you are looking for a murder mystery, this isn't one. Nor is it a romance. In fact I'm not sure what it is.
The plot is fairly simple, with no genuine investigation or gradual revelation of information. However James does a good job of picking up where the characters were left at the end of Pride and Prejudice and tying off a couple of loose ends, (who is Mrs Younge? How did Lady De Burgh find out about the engagement?).
The book lacks both Austen's sophistication and James' layered mysteries but it is fun light reading and a nice extra installment in the story of some familiar characters. Worth picking up if you like Pride and Prejudice, but not if you are looking for repartee and wit.
