Practice
I've been practising a bit of piano and spanish, as well as macro shots with the Kenkos. The latter this time with slightly more sedate subjects than the other day's paper wasps. First with a surprisingly co-operative bug which I later discovered was dead - nice start! Then onto plants in my garden. 'Twas a bit windy, but at least the subjects didn't fly off just when I'd got the composition, settings and focus right! Still, most of my shots were complete duds.
This structure protects and supports what will become a male jap pumpkin flower. Last summer was so wet that the female flowers often became swimming pools and the bees couldn't get at them without risking drowning, so I had to do a lot of pollinating by hand. This year, hopefully not.
In the viewfinder this shot looked in better focus and with more DOF than it does here - my eye needs training and there's still so much to learn! Must get a monopod. Tomorrow if it's not raining I'll try and photograph the pollen inside the flowers.
