Misty Mountains Morning

The weather seems to be far better in the early mornings and begins quite quickly to tail off into dull and dreary grey. It is important therefore to get up and out, and we did so again today.

A brisk walk down to Huntingford and back took us past the Charfield Meadows - a small Wildlife Trust pocket of land beside the Midland main railway line.

Unimproved for many years, it's been home to all sorts of wildlife and has several apple trees growing at the edge, courtesy of innumerable travellers' casually tossed apple cores as they approached Charfield Station (closed since 1965). The landscape is also dotted with these anthill outcrops, which can catch an unwary foot and plunge one into the dewy grass. I speak with some experience.

It appears the Trust are likely to home animals there in the near future, as stock fencing has been erected around it. That will change the feel of the place. Ah, progress.
