Canterbury Cathedral

We are spending the afternoon/overnight in Canterbury Cathedral Lodge, a hotel and retreat in the grounds of Canterbury Cathedral. The collage is the view from the bay windows of our room.

After a browse in the Christmas market, we relaxed with a glass of wine and plate of baklavas in a wine bar in the old part of town.

We attended the cathedral Evensong and listened to the amazing voices of the all male choir . They sung mostly unaccompanied by musical instruments, apart from the occasional rendering of the organ. The Evensong began and ended with the organ playing.

Whenever we have been to Canterbury it has been daylight, so it was different to be here in the dark with the cathedral illuminated and the streets decorated with Christmas lights.

This evening we have a table booked in an italian restaurant . Tomorrow,after breakfast, we will revisit the cathedral from a historical point of view.
