Luke and Xena
It was lovely to see Luke last night and we had a good supper at a nearby pub that is now owned by a rather famous Spanish chef, so you can never get a booking there. The tapas was excellent.
Xena was much better today - thankfully whatever was making her feel ill yesterday has now passed out! I did worry yesterday as I heard about a 16 week old Vizsla pup who died last week from eating something that caused a blockage. We went off to the Scent Training Workshop today - I wanted to do it as I had noticed she seems to have a very good developed sense of smell, and that was proved again today on the workshop as she seemed to do what was asked of her very quickly and correctly. It was all morning until 1pm so she was tired afterwards, but she seemed to enjoy the mental stimulation very much. There were only 5 dogs on the workshop, two GSPs, two working cockers and Xena. One of the GSPs is shown at Crufts, although he was not very good at the scent work. There will be another workshop early next year and after that she can join a local Surrey Scent group to do further training, just for fun of it or with the goal of entering competitions or even one day if she is very well trained do some search and rescue work.
Luke spent the whole morning studying - he has accountancy exams next Friday - and when we got home we had lunch, and he continued studying, Gavin started planting the bulbs he bought yesterday and I took Xena to the woods for a walk. We were surprised by two horses coming up behind us in the woods, but she behaved very well and I was able to recall her and put her back on the lead as they passed by. She did go down into the invitation to play position, with her bum in the air, head down between her legs, but of course the horses do not want to play with a puppy! We got back and it was almost dark and poor Gavin was still planting bulbs! He will have to finish planting next weekend as it got too dark to plant all of them.
