The Common Cormorant or Shag?

A backblip for a few reasons. We went to Scarborough for the day yesterday. It was a long day, so by the time we got back, I was ready to drop straight into bed. Also, I wanted to double check that this bird was a juvenile shag, and not a Cormorant. Looking at reference material, I decided it was a Shag - a much more unusual bird for us to see. We also saw a Great Northern Diver and some Purple Sandpipers in the harbour and a few Rock Pipits.
It was a great day out, with a fish and chips lunch, but of course aside from the light being poor in the afternoon, it went all together by 4pm. Still, we're only a month away from the shortest day.
In spite of what Christopher Isherwood says, these two closely related bird species do not build their nest in a paper bag.
