The Round House

Except it's not a house, it's a funny little church.

Another beautiful winter's day, another peaceful dog walk - but not along the river, on a weekend it's always too busy with tourists from Essen, instead I looped down through the woods and then back up and round.

I've been wanting to blip this church for a while (but wanted the blue sky) it's on a narrow lane and whenever there's a wedding going on (not often as many Germans only do the mandatory civil ceremony) the road is chaos with the parked cars.

Which reminds me, one of the things I miss about living in England is the sound of church bells.
German churches do have bells but they don't ring in pretty tunes, it really does seem to be more of a "it's time for church, get your lazy ass out of bed" kind of noise and in England, especially living in a little country village there would be bell ringing practice on a Thursday evening then on a Saturday if there was a wedding the bells would ring out and again on a Sunday morning.
I love that sound, despite being a total atheist!
