Goodbye To All That . . .

Exposed to an unforgiving world, an old graveyard awaits violation as a minor country road is expanded to a 4-lane highway to accommodate traffic for a massive new shopping mall being constructed on the edge of town.

This, we are told by our local mayor and other worthies, is a Good Thing because it increases the town's tax base and provides more shopping opportunities. Growth. Money. Progress.

And so, the urban jungle creeps slowly but surely into the green belt, destroying everything of real value that may be in its path. Driving. Shopping. Consumerism. These are the gods at whose altar our rural congregation now worships . . .
