Wet weather
It was a dull and rainy morning, the kind of weather that makes your hair go flat and stringy looking - well it has that effect on my hair! We had just started our dog walk this morning when we met a young female Rhodesian Ridgeback dog, and Xena and her had such a good play I could almost have just gone back to the car after that as they romped around so much she had expended so much energy.
However we set off again and within minutes we met another Rhodesian Ridgeback, a large male this time, and they played so much and seemed to get on so well that eventually the owner of that dog and I walked together so the dogs could play and walk together. We had a good walk through the woods, chatting about all sorts of things - she warned me about an awful dog boarder she had used who came highly recommended but then treated her dog badly, which sadly is what I hear all too often - and then as we got to the car park we parted ways. She said her dog had never got on with someone so well as Xena! It must have been national Rhodesian Ridgeback day or something as they are not a common breed and we met two today! Vizslas are always mistaken for Ridgebacks, it is just that their colouring is the same but Ridgebacks are much stockier and bigger dogs.
I spent some time phoning around and making enquiries about dog sitters as I am looking ahead to our trip away in Feb 2020, which we booked 2 years ago. Most of the good home boarding places are full and the sitter we are using this time is also full! It is so hard finding someone good, and when you do find them they are understandably full for a year in advance.
