The Pursuit of ....

cream scones

My friend Paige was over from America to spend Christmas with her sister. Paige and I have been friends since the age of 9 years, and our friendship has survived school days, university days, and living on different continents for most of our adult lives. We arranged a girls afternoon out and those of the girls with children left their fathers to oversee them. We went to The Original Maids of Honour bakery on Kew Road. This bakery is named after dainty Maid of Honour cakes, which are said to have been so loved by King Henry VIII that he confiscated the recipe and demanded that it be kept a secret in a locked iron box in Richmond Palace. The bakery has a long history and well worth a visit. We had a lovely Sunday roast dinner, and finished it off with some of the best cream and jam scones I have tasted (with a pot of tea of course).
