The Amazing Semi Floating Brick

Winter hasn't really got going yet. Night time temperatures are a balmy -4C or thereabouts. We await the -20's but in the meantime the ice on the water butt out back is thick enough to support a brick even though the brick is heavy enough to push the ice below the surface.
How long before the ice fights back?
