Weird and wonderful
Goodness what a dreich day! A landscape shot was totally out of the question with the cloud base right down to toe level! However I am still enjoying the memories of yesterday's mists for which thank you all for your stars, hearts and comments.
As I walked on the moor today my eyes were downcast looking for blip fodder and this is what I found. Amongst the grey, a little glimpse of yellow. This is yellow brain fungus tremella mesenterica, and it is tiny, only about 2cm and happily thriving on the dead branch of a gorse bush. Apparently it only goes yellow in very wet weather - hence its current wonderful hue - and it almost disappears in dry weather as it shrivels up. It also goes under the wonderful name of Witches' Butter, which I confess I much prefer and it makes me think of Shakespeare's play "Macbeth" when uprooted trees/bushes were used to give cover to the advancing army.
Macbeth shall never vanquished be until
Great Birnam wood to high Dunsinane hill
Shall come against him.
Once the dogs were dry I battened down the hatches and concentrated on some routine admin which needed to be caught up with! Yawn.
