Shed archaeology - soldier's paybook 1915

When we moved into our house 27 years ago, the family of our predecessor had left loads of stuff in the two-storey shed (originally a stable, though that makes the house sound much grander than it is) at the end of the garden. We had too much work to do in the house to be bothered with sorting it, and over the years we added our own junk to the heaps. I've spent the last fortnight moving the hefty stuff out and am now unearthing some of the smaller items. A couple of days ago the treasure was an old rusty paraffin stove wrapped in a very fragile newspaper dated 1947.

Today I found a page from an August 1901 newspaper. But more exciting was this 1915 'Soldier's Pay Book for use on Active Service', in the name of the son of the man who built our house in, I think, 1913. It records details of how much he was paid and when, and tucked into the front was this third class 'Special Railway Ticket' for 'His Majesty's Forces in Uniform'.

My tidying marathon starts on 17 October and backblips (uploaded today) from when I've been too preoccupied to blip, start on 27 October.
