Man. Staring at the sea
Today on the way to visit a client I was passing by Leith Docks. Him indoors is an artist who likes all things ships & crane related, so I often pop in to see if there are any interesting looking ships docked to take some reference photos for him.
Unfortunately there weren't. But that turned out to be a good thing as my eye was drawn instead to this old broken down jetty where the sea gulls were all hanging out, oddly all lined up facing the same way. They looked like they were waiting on something to happen, I know not what.
But at the end of the jetty was the most interesting thing of all - an Antony Gormley figure staring in to the sea. His works are very distinctive and easy to spot. I knew there were some in the Water of Leith, but didn't realise there was one down here. It's part of his 6 Times series - there are 5 other siblings dotted between the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art and the sea.
Very beautiful and poignant. An unexpected treat down at the docks on a freezing murky grey day.
