A win win day

I had an appointment over at Torksey this morning, a village that I’ve never visited before, but was aware that the lock that leads off the river Trent into the Fossdyke canal is here. There’s a car park next to the lock so I was able to park up and look around.

A fisherman returned to his car as I was investigating and kindly provided me with the info that I needed. He said that the water level was much higher last weekend and was almost over the level of the lock gate in the picture.

This view is looking westward towards the Trent which runs in front of the power station seen in the distance. There is considerable flooding in the field to the right.

Seeing the power station is a bonus as it shut down at the end of September and will at some time in the future be demolished. I love these cooling towers, they are so elegant (a sentiment that I’m sure is not shared with everyone).

There are interesting views of the lock in the other direction which I will blip another day.

A bit of excitement late afternoon. We found a tiny hedgehog in the back garden, Amber raised the alarm. It’s only about 300grms in weight and looks about 6-8 weeks old. I’ve tried ringing a wildlife rescue lady in the village but cannot get a reply. I’ve fed it and put it somewhere safe for tonight and will try again in the morning.
