A Distinguished Serviceman's House
The House with the blue window surrounds is the former home of Edward Benn ('Ned') Smith VC, DCM (10 November 1898 – 12 January 1940) was an English recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces.
Last Saturday a blue plaque was fixed to the wall of the house in honour of him. There is also a memorial stone for him on south quay opposite the house..
