The flames were long gone

A big fire broke out this afternoon in the construction site of the Sky City Convention Centre. One of our stff was headed back from an appointment on the North Shore, and saw the high flames from early in the emergency. By the time I head about it, all that was visible from the unit was occasional plumes of dark grey smoke.

nearly four hours later I went for a walk along Ponsonby Road, and at the corner with Angelsea Street saw that the fire was still burning. Big flames were not to be seen, but the thick black smoke was persistent, unlike earlier in the afternoon. Apparently due to chemicals in the building site which had caught fire and resulted in extra bursts of active fire.
