The Railyard, Santa Fe, New Mexico -- Oct. 13

(Backblip)

We loved this area of Santa Fe, preserved by the citizens for multiple uses. There's an interesting video about this process, in which more than 7000 community members participated, and the results here, as well as before-and-after photos.

In the extras are more images of some of the marvelous murals in The Railyard, as well as a photo of the striking SITE Santa Fe building's exterior and a thoughtful sign I photographed in the women's restroom. The restroom door had a big W on it, with (self-identified) below that letter. The men's restroom followed suit, with a big M and (self-identified) below it, as well as the same thoughtful sign. I wish that these signs could be posted in every public restroom in this country!

We spent several hours in SITE Santa Fe, enjoying the current exhibit -- "Bel Canto: Contemporary Artists Explore Opera" (here). Phil blipped one of the striking visuals -- a wall full of photos taken from the stages of 150 Italian opera houses, large and small. (One of the smallest opera houses graces the top of the second link above.)

If we make a second trip to Santa Fe, we'll definitely return to The Railyard!
