Anno

I have loved the books of Anno Mitsumasa for a long, long time. I bought Anno’s Counting Book and Anno’s Journey for our daughter when she was very young. Since then those same books have been shared and enjoyed by many children, including latterly by the three grandchildren. And they are not finished yet- they are still chosen and perused when the girls are at our house. Books that I must have blipped and waxed lyrical about. Books that ought to be in every family’s library.

So, when I noticed by chance that there was an exhibition of Anno’s work at Japan House, that’s where we went this afternoon. What a lovely place and a fascinating exhibition. Great to see pictures we know so well from books and lots more of his work, including some quite remarkable Papercuts. A beautifully laid out exhibition, with space to sit and read . . . and share books. (The extra is Kensington High Street through an Anno papercut.)

Well worth finding and the two bus journeys to get to Kensington were interesting in themselves. A book was bought, which I have no doubt will be the subject of a future blip. Sadly the book Anno’s Britain from which many of the original paintings in the exhibition were from is out of print.

So, yes we are back down in London, having come down by train this morning. We are here for a reason.
