Slingfield Mill

We too ourselves for a swim this afternoon to take advantage of our new membership of a local pool.  Very nice it was too, even though we broke ourselves in gently with just a few lengths each.  For some reason I thought they provided towels so only took a small hand towel with me.  That was a mistake - difficult to dry a whole body with a small hand towel...

We called in at the shopping centre in Kidderminster on the way home.  I love the old architecture there.  This old building has been taken over and used by Debenhams for the last few years.  The brickwork is beautiful.

"Slingfield Mill was built in 1864 by Thomas Lea.  The architects were Lockwood and Mawson of Bradford, well-known for their textile mills.  The finest yarns for the carpet industry were spun on machinery driven by a steam engine powered from boilers in the nearby boiler house with its square chimney.  In 1920, Lea Ltd became part of Carpet Trades who sold it to Brintons in 1948.  By the late 1980s, yarn spinning had ceased and in 2003 the mill became a retail outlet."


Back to the nurse with Rob's finger tomorrow.  Hoping for some improvement.
