Where's the bed?

We have left Kyoto for Koyasan, a hill top Buddhist settlement 50 miles south. It is home to several temples and a cemetery which we will be visiting tomorrow.

This is a picture of our room in the monastery where we're staying. A monk will put out a futon while we are at dinner. How cool is that!

Ascetic is the word that springs to mind.
