early snow

The forecasters were right, we are getting our first snow of the season today. And as you can see, the leaves on my peach tree are still green! 
The wind is brisk and the temps well below freezing, so the House Finches are gathered on my covered deck, with their down feathers all puffed up.
But the Downy Woodpecker braved the weather to search for food out in the open.
