Somewhere over the rainbow...

We had a very upsetting call from our friend ‘kipsie’ last night. She has been looking after all the animals , including Ruby, our friends lovely lab.
Ruby had suddenly been taken seriously ill late in the evening. Ringing around and waiting for a duty vet to phone back, we all sat in numbed shock.
Eventually, after a very long time, my own vet responded and was able to come out to the house. All the other vets that were called had said that they could only tend to her if she was taken to them. An impossible task for K even with the help of my neighbour Jo, to get her to the car.
Finally just before midnight, the vet called with the news that the kindest thing was to put Ruby to sleep.
I think we all knew it was coming but it’s so hard to accept. One minute all was normal and literally the next minute she was beyond help.
She was the dearest dog and part of our family as we looked after her so frequently over the past 12, nearly 13 years.
We return home from our holiday together with heavy hearts.
