Gloucester Cathedral is famous now among the young as the setting for some locations in the Harry Potter films. However there is so much of architectural and historical interest in the cathedral. One of its outstanding features is the East Window which is the size of a tennis court and contains almost all of the original glass made about 1350, and cleaned twenty years ago with 130,000 cotton buds and ionised water. The view here is looking down over the Quire from the Tribune Gallery where there are descriptions of the methods used by the medieval masons together with the work being done today in maintaining the building. Connecting the two parts of the gallery is the Whispering Gallery where we were able to hear a quiet whisper travel round and to walk behind the window and see the intricate glass close up.

Despite having been to the cathedral many times, there was still so much to see again, but our time was very limited. We had taken daughter #1 to get her coach to Heathrow before we drove north and were dismayed to discover that there were no left luggage facilities at the bus or train stations to leave her case. Consequently, instead of spending more time sightseeing, she had a long wait at the bus station with her case. Perhaps precautions now have to consider terrorism.
