Sally Lightfoot
I could watch these crabs scuttling along the beach and rocks all day. Not only are they visually stunning, they are agile and clever and numerous. The young are black, but the adults take on this vibrant colouring. Apparently they are not averse to eating one another and can grow another leg if another creature inadvertently eats one. More wet landings today - they are no more elegant but we have discovered that it is best to attempt them in bare feet and worry about shoes later. We have decided not to attempt snorkelling at this moment in time. Glass bottom boats are proving more our style currently.
We are totally amazed by the variety of wildlife we are seeing and how obliging most of them are photographically. Our guide Alejandro is quite superb. His knowledge and humour really are making this trip an absolutely wonderful experience. Our tour director Carlos is also a treasure - humour and nagging in our brilliant package - he is very concerned about our careless approach to frequent application of sun screen here on the Equator as he thinks we are fooled by the apparent lack of sunshine in the micro climates present in this area.
So difficult to pick out one part of this experience as the best. It is all absolutely so wonderfully diverse and amazing. Still looking for a view of the Boobies.
