Damian Hirst is calling
A drastic case of over sleeping this morning so there was a mad dash to get showered, dressed and in the car to get to the dentist.
Just a check up and no treatment needed.
Afterwards we decided to check out the new Weston Gallery at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park.
We had a terrific lunch and then looked at the indoor exhibit. It was a rather whacky piece of machinery that looked a bit like newsprint coming off the presses. Except that it wasn't newspaper it was mixed media art with images of parts of the human body and lost items. It emitted clicking and clanking noises. 2 blokes were in there adjusting the rollers so I was able to ask about the noise. It turns out that the clicks were from a build up of static electricity. Rather more interesting was that the clanking noises weren't supposed to be there. Hence their presence. I rather liked the clanking.
The two men were rather concerned by my parting comment that we had to go as Damian Hirst was calling.
Indeed he was. Two huge sculptures of a part flayed unicorn and a pregnant human figure.
Enjoyed our visit even though I'm quite ambivalent about these particular pieces.
