Sunny windy Porthleven.

Glorious sunny morning, but nearly blown away walking towards Looe Bar from Porthleven. Also blown away by the light, and the beautiful shimmering sea.

Had a delicious lunch at Sea Drift. Another of our favourites. Fish chowder, and a huge meringue with mixed berries, ice cream and Cornish cream. Yummy!

Started raining so decided on a visit to the Museum of Cornish Life, Helston.
What a delightful place. Absolutely full of interesting objects and information.

It was carved out of stone in 1943 by Bill Jewell from Helston. A “ Desert Rat” with the Royal Scots Greys.
A reminder of home.
Maybe it made him laugh that the translation of Bethlehem is “ House of Meat” as Bill was a butcher.

We also learnt about Henry Trengrouse 1772 - 1854. Born and lived in Helston.
The inventor of the ‘ Rocket’ life-saving apparatus. Has saved many lives with his rocket launchers, rocket lines, life jackets and bosun’s chair. Still in use today.

Mr C also was surprised to learn that Bob Fitzsimmons was born in Helston in 1863.
I didn’t know the name, but he was a professional boxer who made boxing history as the sport’s first three - division world champion. He is in the Guinness Book of Records as the lightest heavyweight champion.

We called to say goodbye to our friends on the way back, and before we knew it three hours had passed.
Hoping they will visit Yorkshire next year.

Unfortunately our last day tomorrow. Hoping for fine weather for our train ride into St Ives.
