Diary of an Edinburgher

Three artists!

A hectic day. Long story, but I was expecting an important parcel, accidentally being sent to my former abode (from six years ago!) I knew the folk living there would not be in, so I resolved to go and sit on their step to await the delivery (between 9.20 and 1.20). I got a text this morning from them saying no, I must come and sit inside their flat! Very kind of them, considering I hadn’t met them before, They're both artists, and have a wee studio nearby, which we will visit soon.

However, just as I was settled on their sofa, I tracked the parcel. The PO had been 'unable to deliver' it and it was being returned to sender. Aaaargh! I rushed up to the handy neighbourhood PO Depot, and there it was - so obviously NOT 'out for delivery'. However, I was so glad to get my hands on it, I didn’t complain.

I then popped down to the Apple shop to get them to help me with some techy stuff. I could see a 'Genius', but not for an hour. No worries, I popped round the corner to one of my favourite pubs (those are the original tiles). There I had a wee glass of beer, and chatted to a nice Swiss tourist, who happens to be a professional artist too. She really really appreciated that our museums and galleries are free, unlike Switzerland (and most other European countries, I think) where they are quite expensive..

Everything sorted, I popped in to Prêt A Manger, as it's right by my bus. They really do the best soya flat white. And I had a spectacularly good pain au raisin.

Later on we walked round to a neighbour's flat to help her with her constantly bleeping smoke alarms. Her ladder is too short, I discovered yesterday, so we carried round our long ladder, and got looks and comments from passers by. Discovered that the smoke alarm batteries were 'not replaceable', so she will have to phone the helpful firemen who put them up.

Libby was on her way to take Archie out this morning when her tutor emailed and asked her to come for a meeting. She was not pleased. Archie went for a big walk with JR instead.

Well done Ireland!
