Democracy is coming...... to the USA
(with thanks to Leonard Cohen)
Just down the road from where we are staying...
Takes 30 mins to walk down Telegraph Hill into the centre. Today we were on our way to Candlestick Park to see the San Francisco 49ers play (American football). It was a fantastic day - what an amazing cultural show - its HUGE, the stadium held anout 10,ooo (bigger than the Olympic Stadium), 99% having bought team strips, earrings, bags, necklaces, hats, jackets. Big money. Advert breaks every 10 minutes. So what with play stopping every other minute, a game that really only lasts 60 mins (4 quarters) stretches out to about 2.5 hours.
Everyone stood for the 'Star spangled banner' (sung by a woman with a belting voice), fireworks, cheers, and I still don't really (at all) understand the rules.
When the 49ers won, one of the (MANY) fast food suppliers promised EVERYONE a free hot dog. Eating for the country.
Exhausting.
