Trust

I parked my car opposite my hairdresser's place today. (One of the advantages of ageing is that my hair takes less time to cut on each visit.)

The place where I parked has up to three hours free parking but one has to display a ticket, dispensed by a parking meter, to display the time of arrival.  As I got out of the car, a very pleasant parking enforcement chap said to me and a woman who was parking near me "the machine is out of order so you don't need to bother walking to the next machine" (c400 yards away) - "it is only me on duty and I won't be giving anyone a ticket just here today." I thanked him and prepared to set off. The woman told the parking attendance that she didn't trust him and was going to go and get a ticket anyway.

What a sad nation we are becoming have become.
