Queuing for pollen
On the first sunny and dry day since last week, I visited the RHS gardens at Harlow Carr.
I bumped into Philiphoto who was also lurking with his camera, so I hope I haven't caused a blipsnap.
There were a number of butterflies basking in the autumn sunshine. I think this is a Painted Lady, although I'm not very good at identifying them. This one was in competition with various other flying insects for a landing spot on this flower.
I'm not sure if the other flying visitors are hoverflies or bees. My understanding is bees have long antennae and smaller eyes on the side of their head. One of the visitors appears to have long antennae so maybe this one is a bee.
