Slavonian Grebe

Lossiemouth 13:45

Struggled with what to do today. The plan on this wee tour of Scotland had been to head to Fraserburgh area for Laughing Gull, American Wigeon, Desert Wheatear and some white-winged gulls and spend a couple of days in the area, but the Laughing Gull hadn't been seen for a few days. With a lateish start and news that there was an Iceland Gull, a Glaucous Gull, 16 Snow Buntings and a Slavonian Grebe at Lossiemouth, we thought we'd head there and see what we felt like.

A very pleasant spot is Lossiemouth, but of our headline birds only the Slavonian Grebe was found. Plenty of other stuff though, Wigeon, Long-tailed Duck, Dunlin, Sanderling, Bar-tailed Godwit, Redshank, Turnstone & Shag, made for a good day, however at the end of it we couldn't work up the enthusiasm to head on to Fraserburgh and find a B&B so it was the three hour drive home.

I once met a birder who complained he was becoming agoraphobic. In reality though it sounded more like his parameters for when to give up and head home were changing. So was it the sensible option just to head home or have we caught a bit of agoraphobia?
