A Troubled Turkey

I was trolling down a country road when I noticed something standing in the road. I thought buzzard, but it turned out to be a turkey. Thinking it would vanish into the woods, I took a couple of pictures through my dirty windshield. Still, she didn't move.

I put my van in park, and approached her. Still, she didn't move. I warned her that she needed to get out of the road. Still, she didn't move. I got to with 10-12 feet away from her. Still, she didn't move. I whistled, and I let out a muffled hoot. Still, she didn't move.

I hope I'm wrong, but she was sending me some not-so-good signals. A bird doesn't just stand still when a human approaches. Is she not thinking clearly? She was having trouble opening her eyes. Is that gunk on her head some kind of infection? Trying not to be cruel, she looks a little grizzled. Is she just old? She was all by herself. That's not normal.

I hope all of my concerns are unfounded, but as I left...I didn't have a good feeling.
