Backblip

The sail down the scenic archipelago from Stockholm in Sweden, was marvellous and we were being followed by two large ferry boats while passing many little settlements and small ferries. At times we were so close to the shore that we could see wild flowers and it would be great to have had a little canoe to explore some of the hundreds of little islands.  The view here is looking back towards Stockholm where we walked around the Old Town and watched the changing of the guard at the Palace.
Riddarholm Church in the extra is one of the oldest buildings in the city and where the monarchs used to be buried. The cast iron spire replaced the previous spire which was destroyed by lightning in 1835.
The time at the Vasa Ship Museum was not long enough to see everything.  The huge warship had sunk barely a kilometre from the shore on its maiden voyage and lay on the sea bed for 333 years until it was raised in 1961.  The extra shows a reconstruction of the sort of activities going on as the Vasa left the harbour.  I think the Vasa Museum is even more interesting than the similar tudor ship, Mary Rose, which also sunk on its maiden voyage near Portsmouth.
