Last day

It’s the last day of Southampton International Boat Show and crowds were not daunted by heavy showers, but by this time, within an hour of closing, visitors were dwindling.
Certainly on the chandlery stalls there were still bargains afoot, especially in clothing for sailing or leisure.
Yet the show, now in its 51st year, professes to have something to interest anyone with the remotest interest in boating. I shall look forward with interest to hearing the total number of visitors. For me, the highlight was the award on opening day, of the coveted YJA MS Amlin Yachtsman of the Year title to Lucy MacGregor and YJA MS Amlin Young Sailor of the Year award to Matilda Nicholls, and Alexander Rabbitt winning the YJA MS Amlin Young Blogger award. The competition is organised by the Yachting Journalists’ Association and supported by boat insurer MS Amlin Yacht.
